We got the first Dark Towertrailer todayand it was a lot . So we , of class , pick it aside to figure out what we could about this seemingly complicated moving-picture show .
The affair to fuck about Dark Tower the flick is that it is n’t the common translation of the first account book in a series into a movie , kicking off a dealership . or else , found on this house trailer and an Entertainment Weekly clause , we know thatchunks from all of the novelsare being remixed into this first movie . The premise of the first book — Jake ( Tom Taylor ) meeting Roland ( Idris Elba ) and their pass opposition with the Man in Black ( Matthew McConaughey)—is the architecture everything else is run off onto .
The third book is also really influential and locations and scenes from books five and six will also bug out up .
For obvious reasons , the trailer sport a lot of Roland ’s gunslinging skill . I would note the blue sky in the background knowledge which matches the beams that hold up the Tower . ( The Tower is the center of creation and it keep everything from falling into blaze . The six ray of light — in the script they ’re only watch by their “ core , ” but they ’re genuine free energy beams in the movie — keep it up . The Man in Black need the Tower put down , Roland does not . )
Roland : “ For thousands of generations , the Gunslingers were knights swear to protect us from the coming of the dark . ”
This is pretty gorgeous shot of Mid - World and a location that I ’m fairly certain is Algul Siento , mainly because of the “ Crimson King ” graffiti we see later on which would tie into that metropolis ’s fib reasonably well .
This particular john I think takes place on innovative - sidereal day Earth , but it ’s hard to tell .

Roland fires up towards this matter which does n’t match any description from the rule book that I can notice .
Here ’s where the third book stuff and nonsense comes in . The third al-Qur’an has a lot of Jake ’s life sentence in New York , his visions , and his mammy sending him to a shrink because of them . Also , while the books put Jake ’s childhood in 1977 , we ’ve heard that “ a lot ” of the movietakes stead in the forward-looking day . That could mean some time travel shenanigans but it also likely means that Jake ’s metre flow has been move onward to be more accessible . Given everything else that ’s going on here , that would make sentiency .
The shaking is from the beams and the Tower , which Jake is stargaze about and thereby freaking out his mother — enough that she transport him to a psychiatrist .
Who demand what Jake watch in the visions . “ I see a Tower , and a Man in Black , and the Gunslinger , ” he answer .
The tugboat Jake draws is surrounded by red , as it is when we see it start to tumble later in the poke .
There are a ton of clew hidden here . We see a mint of the Tower and it diminish . The Man in Black , Roland , the Doorway ( but not the Doorway Demon ) . There ’s also a drawing of the woman on the bottom provide . She does n’t appear in the trailer and might be an Easter egg for a tardy movie . Our good client is Susan Delgado , Roland ’s long - gone love .
“ They ’re not real , Jake , ” is the answer . But then the tremors embark on and we get a injection of the Overlook Hotel from The polishing on the desk , one of many reference to other Stephen King works in this trailer . I would not need to be treated by someone with ties to that spot . Just say .
Another thing from the third book brought into this movie is Dutch Hill Mansion , a New York sign containing a portal site between worlds . It agree one of Jake ’s dream . It seems like bolshie in the portal means it will take you to Mid - World and puritanical is the color for trip to Earth .
Jake getting to Mid - World the first time through this portal is very unlike than how he gets there in the first book of account , where the Man in Black push him into traffic and he perish . If Jake dies in this film — which seems inevitable — I think his first death will be his second book death ( falling from a crumbling bridge during a face-off with the Man in Black ) . Or the Man in Black will kill him in a more active direction , simply because his story in the first book ( having already been in Mid - World ) does n’t line up with what we see here . Again , the third book is really providing a lot of the fib for this movie .
The link to Jake ’s 2nd death is in the drone , by the way . Jake state , “ There ’s another world out there , I know there is , ” which are similar to his 2nd last words .
Jake pronounce he knows Roland , he ’s a Gunslinger . “ There are no Gunslingers , not any longer . ”
Always hear to someone who ’s had visions of you .
This bit seems to be the first look in the trailer at the Dixie Pig , which establish up in the 6th ledger . It ’s a eldritch kind of Gothic mall in the flick , and a New York hideout for the Man in Black and his supernatural minions .
Jake , on one of many scenes we see of him and Roland traveling , asks why the Man in Black wants to destroy the Tower .

If I had to guess I ’d cogitate the scarlet explosion here harbinger the Doorway Demon . The monster — which Jake also describe and which was in the very beginning of the laggard — returns .
The Man in Black walks in somewhere with coke or fog in the background which we do n’t recognize from the books . Maybe a dogan ( which is like a ascendence room ) ? Jake : “ He ’s like the Devil , is n’t he . ”
Roland : “ No , he ’s worse . ”
I intend the 2d snap is the Man in Black in the Dixie Pig . Could be the Mansion , though .
This is the first shot of what are believably Taheen , who work for the Man in Black .
There are a circle of scene from this competitiveness in the Manni settlement . The Manni are bring from Good Book five , and they study orphic ways to move between world . Claudia Kim plays Arra Champignon , who in this movie helps Roland and Jake , which is a definite summation to her lineament from the script , although her book connection to Roland ’s Father of the Church , Steven Deschain , helps excuse why he pops up afterwards in the trailer .
“ You ca n’t hold on what ’s coming . Death always come through , ” sound out the Man in Black .
bull from other world end up in Mid - World all the time , including this … skyscraper ? Chunk from a cathedral ?
And also , of course of action , Pennywise from IT . “ Your world might be gone , but mine is n’t , ” says Jake , plant the stakes .
“ You let that Tower downslope , billions of people cash in one’s chips , ” he continues . leftover that Jake has to win over Roland to save the Tower here but there must be a reason .
Roland : “ Do they have guns and bullets in your world ? ”
Jake : “ You ’re go to wish Earth . A lot . ” Well , some parts . Well , unquestionably the United States .
It seem like the Man in Black is waitress in the Mansion for something . Blue , again , seems to be people coming to Earth .
Obligatory fish out of piss in Times Square jibe . The cars look advanced .
The graffiti is “ All hail the Crimson King . ” The Crimson King is the big , giving bad of the books . He ’s the source of everything drop dead wrong . The Man in Black ’s boss .
And here ’s Jake getting caught up by the Dutch Hill Mansion Demon , which protects the portal in the sign of the zodiac by turning the house into a very dangerous obstacle . Whether or not this scene lines up with the shot of Jake from earlier in the trailer is unclear .
“ You claw your way out of the swarthiness ? Did you tell the tyke whoever walks with you die out ? ” says the Man in Black , portend Jake ’s decease again .
Again , this all looks like in the Dixie Pig . In a sleeper to the 7th Good Book , EW ’s Anthony Breznicanreportedthat there are people with “ SOMBRA ” badges on their uniforms in this pic . I ca n’t pick out any in this trailer though .
Roland : “ I will down him , for both of us . ”
The mannequin are so creepy-crawly .
The meth windows in the space where Roland learn Jake to spud match the ones he dives out of above . Also , a nerveless prefiguration of Roland teaching his ka - tet to be gunslingers themselves .
And here ’s Dennis Haysbert as , we have to imagine , Steven Deschain , Roland ’s deceased , Gunslinger father from the past tense . He ’s missing the big old moustache , though .
This is clearly from the sexual climax of the movie , but it does n’t look like any of the confrontations that I ’d await in this movie , see Roland and the Man in Black do n’t actually press in any of the books this is really drawing from .
Back at the Manni village , the Taheen test to grab Jake and run . But this is where we really see what Roland can do .
“ I do not aim with my hand , I propose with my middle . I do not vote down with my gun . I vote down with my centre . ”
Boom .
There is a luck go on in this preview . The book references are all over the function , which makes it backbreaking for fans to really parse . There are so many locations and new ideas in it that I ca n’t guess newcomers are quite capable to see everything . On the other hand , it looks sound , the cast is clearly in it to get it veracious , and I ’m pop off to see more . The Dark Tower is out August 4 .
