We all detest spam . But we figure it must be deserving it to someone since there ’s so damn much of it . But … apparently not . A new newspaper from the Journal of Economic Perspectives approximate it brings ina aggregate of $ 200 million in tax revenue worldwide per year . And then the rest of us pass $ 20 billion cleaning it up . Ugh .
How is that possible ? It ’s insanely cheap to broadcast spam , that ’s how . The newspaper suggest that things like raising the monetary value of payment processing would have a dramatic effect on spammer ’ overhead , and would probably be more effective than , say , government intervention .
