Every writer collaboration is its own little realm , double-dyed with its own stage set of rule , protocols , and practices . Here ’s a expression at how Melissa Marr and Kelley Armstrong cooperate to write the Blackwell Pages trilogy .
Marr join us today for a Q&A about her Wicked Lovely series , her new book Made For You , and the serial that she collaborate with Armstrong on , the Blackwell Pages . And she explained how the collaboration mental process worked for Armstrong and her :
I love this topic ! There is n’t a set manner to do it . IIRC , Holly [ Black ] & Cassie [ Clare ] literally pass a computer back & forward . Kelley & I could n’t do that . EVER . We are both control freak with very dissimilar stylus , so . . . we decided to use our divergence as a “ characteristic ” or else of a failing .

I compose multiple pov ; she typically likes to indite one .
I dislike outlines ; she like them .
I learn grammar so I have a hard time with fragments ; she loves them .

So we each write dissimilar characters . She save Matt , and I save everyone else ( Fen , Laurie , & Owen ) . We use a loose synopsis , & we allow our committal to writing vogue to be ruminate in our characters ’ voices to further distinguish them ( of import in multiple pov ) . We also write in order , & I ca n’t pen my next chapter until I learn hers . Then , in revision , we go into the other person ’s chapter to correct our fibre ’ dialogue & take note any “ out of character ” action .
It ’s been a very effective scheme for us , AND we never cramp the other one . We did , however , start with a legally bind contract bridge on all sorts of contingency up to and include ownership of the rights if one of us die before the serial was over 😉
you’re able to interpret Marr ’s full Q&A — where she also made the first reveal of the cover for the UK and Australian editions of her new rule book , Made For You which you’re able to see in full below — decent here .
