There are 20 seconds in the1996 blockbuster film Independence Daythat get me every time . And it ’s not some large reveal . It ’s not some funny antic or hugely excited beat . It ’s just a abbreviated , 20 - instant blip where the pic achieves a level of flawlessness that , I find , it never reach again , and this iscoming from a monolithic fan of the film .
The moment add up about an time of day into the proceedings . America has decide to fight back at the aliens who have just demolish several major city , killing millions . Captain Steven Hiller ( Will Smith)is one of the pilots in the air and he just lose his best ally to what are clearly superscript aircraft . Sad but determined , the decease has yield Hiller added passion . Clearly , he ca n’t beat everyone , but if he can just defeat one of these aeroplane , that would be enough . And it ’s at this here and now that director Roland Emmerich uses a small-arm of medicine from David Arnold ’s account that we do n’t find out in this elbow room at any other point in the film . It ’s a Riffian on the master motif , but somehow in a more propelling , rousing way , and it plays over blotto , exciting redaction and paper of Hiller straining to move his airplane in slipway he ’s never used it before . Here ’s the here and now .
That moment right there is my favorite in all of Independence Day . A beautiful blend of sound , act , editing , and cinematography . But mostly , it ’s the music . These 20 seconds are the only time in the entire picture when Arnold employ that fussy beat . Those first few Federal Reserve note , first moving up the scale , then down the scale , then going into a version of the root word just so perfectly get Hiller ’s croaky need to win this battle not just for himself or for his booster , but for major planet Earth . sure as shooting , the film has good music throughout , but every time I hear this while I question “ Why is n’t there more of the score in this path all throughout the movie ? ” It would have made a great movie even advantageously .

Anyway , that ’s my 2 cents . No bigger level to it . I just wanted to , on this special July 4 , give my favorite moment in Independence Day its due .
