According to this article send yesterday on CNET , Apple has applied for a patent on technology which would allow an iPod ( or other gadget ) to detect when it is falling and shut down the hard drive , minimizing the potential price to motor and data due to impact . How soon this technology will get its elbow room into the iPod , don it ever does , is unknown . Considering that IBM has deploy interchangeable technology in its ThinkPads , I would n’t be surprised if it appear within the next generation or two .
