BAE ’s had another mad brainstorming session , this meter develop the construct of a “ impertinent skin ” for airplanes to facilitate them “ sense ” their surroundings and detect equipment casualty .
Engineers from BAE ’s Advanced Technology Centre are testing the idea of embed “ decade of thousands of micro - sensors ” into an airplane skin that , once apply , could give a pilot more exact data on thing like wind speed , temperature and any strong-arm tenor being placed on the plane .
The sensing element are so small they could potentially be sprayed on like paint , allow the easy retrofitting of older planes . Once on , they would run themselves via their own power source and relay data point back to flight computers “ in much the same way that human hide sends signals to the brain , ” according to BAE .

manifestly aeroplane skin is some way from being a real affair — but it ’ll be interesting to see if or how it gets put to use .
