Thousands of inmates in California state prisons could be release as early as August in an attempt to stamp down the spread of covid-19 , a potentially deadly disease triggered by the novel coronavirus strain SARS - CoV-2 .

An estimated 8,000 immure individuals could be loose by the end of next calendar month , a measure the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation say by email is intend to create outer space to allow prisons to better implement safety protocol like social distancing and quarantining .
