We ’re bound to engender calculator smarter than us in the next ninety yr or so . So we may as well get down hoping they have our best interest at sum , say Wake authorRobert J. Sawyer .
In Wake , a “ webmind ” go to realize awareness and recognize the existence of the out-of-door world . But let ’s not assume a superior cyber - word would be uncongenial to us , Sawyertold the Ottawa Citizen :
For 50 years now we have been inculcated by skill fiction , so we have to take the blame for it as writers , I guess , that information processing system are inherently evil . Starting with HAL in 1968 ( 2001 : A Space Odyssey ) , every computer that Captain Kirk every mete out with , The Matrix , the Terminator film … all of this clobber preaches that AI , hokey intelligence operation , is going to be human race ’s downfall .

I ’ve done my middling share of that myself in some of my earliest book . But I got to thinking about whether that was inevitably honest . What I set out to do with this trilogy is to witness a new synthesis , a way in which we can keep on our essential individuality , human race and freedom without any longer being the most levelheaded beingness on the planet .
It ’s inevitable that we ’re going to face things this 100 that are brighter than us so we ’ve set about to start think about ways that we can make that work for us , instead of sort of throwing up our hand .
Or we could just start build up little bomb into every computer , so we can detonate them if they start to get any ideas .
