With horror veteran Greg Nicotero ( The Walking Dead ) again maneuver the ship , Creepshow time of year four brings 12 tale to liveliness ( and death ) across its six installments , some sprinkled with references to George A. Romero and Stephen King , who collaborated on the Creepshow 1982 horror anthology film . With a few exceptions , the cast is less eminent - visibility than other seasons , which is n’t a knock ; by now , Creepshow has its own devotees who ’re tune in for the stories as well as the grisly special effects . And anyway , the execution are strong across the board , even if you might not recognize the actors .
Obviously , we wo n’t be getting into any plunderer in this review article , but it ’s not hand anything away to say that some repeat musical theme emerge . Big 1 include greed and the dangers of unchecked ambition — never-ending favorites for Creepshow and other anthology genre series that’ve come before ( especially The Twilight Zone ) . But the biggest report umbrellas both , as the season repeatedly examine nonadaptive families whose event become more complicated when supernatural elements poke . Standout instance include a son dealing with his heinously hectoring parent in the darkly comic “ Parent Deathtrap , ” the suburban dad who ’s rattle by the wholesome vampires next door in “ Meet the Belaskos , ” and “ Something Burrowed , Something Blue , ” sport John Carpenter movie veteran Tom Atkins as a slippery paterfamilias . Elsewhere , we see sept drawn together by their experiences , most touchingly in the father - son video game soldering tale “ Cheat Code . ”

As for the creatures and blood - and - guts stuff and nonsense , again , we are n’t lead to ruin the playfulness for anyone , but time of year four encompasses a range that ’ll satisfy splattering junkie . We name vampires ; there ’s also a variety of predominate beasties along with ghosts , nance , and zombies — the latter total in “ George Romero in 3 - viosterol ! ” , an episode that pays protection not just to Creepshow ’s co - Almighty , but also its repulsion comedian - inspired origins , already reverberate in the show ’s incorporation of comic panels into each level . Stephen King also gets an overt court in “ The Hat , ” about a horror source who makes some … let ’s call them badly - advised choices while try out to overcome writer ’s block .
There are some feeble links in season four ; not every tale lands with expiation , with a few underbaked idea and a few that feel perhaps a bit familiar . That ’s bound to happen with an anthology series — and if you ’re watching an episode you start to intend is second - tier , it ’ll be over in 30 minutes - ish anyway . It would also be nice to see more variety among the dramatis personae , as well as the show ’s writers and directors . But overall , Creepshow carry off to be as entertaining as ever in its 4th season . It ’s still as fun as it is freaky , and propelled by an endearing “ made by horror fans , for horror fans ” vigour that feels like it could continue for many more episode to come .
