In last night ’s Eureka , Jo search for the good in Zane against all grounds to the contrary , Allison tried to assist a Word she does n’t really have intercourse , and Jack break world shifts are n’t the only things that make the great unwashed change .
Honestly , this felt up like a sort of minor episode , perhaps because so many of the role and ongoing plots seemed sidelined . ( The fact that the prominent crossing over event is coming up next week probably does n’t help . ) As much as I ’m enjoying what James Callis is doing with Dr. Grant , he has n’t been given a lot to do since coming back from 1947 , and this episode was his small function yet . Henry ’s ongoing acclimation to marital life was dismiss for the episode with his wife off to at a conference – honestly , it probably would have been more interesting to see how Henry would have conduct with that hotel way .
Fargo seemed a bit useless as head of GD , and although we got another adult hint about how he got there – is he really just General Mansfield ’s puppet ? – it would have been dainty for him to toy a more active persona in the minutes . I realize sending Carter off to Harvard was a necessary by-product of the fact that Colin Ferguson was directing , but it still feel a fleck weird to see Eureka without its sheriff . Oh , and though I ’ve actually like Jamie Kennedy in one or two thing I ’ve seen him in , his guest appearance highlighted everything off - putting and objectionable about his theatrical role .
That enjoin , there was a short ton of corking character stuff going on that papered over a lot of these other flaw . As much as I think the challenging of giving everyone in their plaster cast something to do and move the master story forward at a sensible clip defeated the writers here , they ’re still doing a superlative job at wringing the emotion out this altered reality , and perhaps only play up a few relationships at a metre is the best way to go .
It probably helps when there ’s some form of thematic joining linking them together , and “ The Story of O2 ” decidedly had that : it was all about how three of our time - lost heroes – Allison , Jo , and Jack – deal with changes to the most important mortal in their world . One has changed for the beneficial , one for the bad , and one not at all . Or , as the episode ask , are we sure that ’s all true ?
First , there was Allison and her no longer autistic Word Kevin . Releasing her Logos from such a debilitating condition is unquestionably a unspoiled affair , and I doubt anything could go on that would make Allison question that . But the fact remain she has no idea how to bring up a “ normal ” teenager ( and even in this world , Kevin is far from normal ) , and that became very clear here . Allison unwittingly placed the total town in deadly peril because she could n’t carry to watch Kevin lose the rocket backwash , even though Kevin was clearly OK ( if not exactly thrilled ) with that possibility .
Although she will one day be able to the right way tie with her Word , for now she ’s stuck with somebody almost as hard and uncommunicative as the son she left behind : your average teenaged boy . ( And as someone with comparatively late experience with the status , it does n’t get better anytime before long . ) There ’s a cruel irony that she would go from a tike whole dependent on her to one so clearly desperate to be independent , and neither allow for her with a clear enate part . And I think that ’s how you end up steal self - propagating oxygen and cheat your son to victory .
Next there ’s Jo and her newly unreformed non - fiance Zane . ( I opine he ’s doubly her non - groom-to-be , since she never even accepted his marriage proposal in the old realness . ) This was probably the most in force part of the sequence , and that ’s partially down to the strength of Erica Cerra ’s carrying out . Nobody else has lost quite so much in this new reality – the destruction of her house was a gravely vicious topper – and Cerra really extract that sense of loss without Jo ever quite come out and stating it outright . The range of emotion she depart through when Zane call her Jo - Jo again was probably the best little moment of the instalment , and it really talk to the complicated emotions one has to deal with when face with a world that is n’t quite your own .
lastly , there ’s Carter and his daughter Zoe . Although their subplot was n’t that interesting , again the character consequence and larger radical retain their b - story together . Carter visited her at Harvard because he was afraid the timeline geological fault had exchange her , but he ended up dealing with far more quotidian change – those that issue forth when your baby moves on and grow up . She was n’t the Zoe that we knew , but that had nothing to do with the change realness . Carter ’s recognition that thing never stay exactly the same anyway is in all likelihood a full-grown part of how he and the other four will eventually accept their changed life . rent ’s just go for he ’s not trying examine to get a substitute Zoe by inviting Jo to stick around with him , but I guess time will secern on that one . It always does .
