The previously mandated parallel television set crosscut date of 2009 has just been carry by the FCC , meaning that even though spreader ( the mass like NBC who send out the show ) will be dropping the analog feed , cable operators ( the local cable companies that take your money every month ) will still have to support old ass analog TV Set . They have two way do to it .
The cable operator , come Feb 2009 , can either convince digital Mount Rushmore State signals to analog SD sign and throw it across their cable lines to you , or they can give all their grandma and grandpa customer with old sets a digital to analog converter box . It ’s a trade-off between sucking up more of their bandwidth or giving away detached equipment .
fall 2012 , five old age from now , the FCC will make another conclusion whether to force cable operator to support analogue sign . [ Ars Technica ]
