Using 100 figure of speech taken by the New Horizons ballistic capsule over the course of six workweek , NASA has produced a colorized telecasting show what it would be like to approach and land on Pluto . Prepare yourself for a wondrous trip .
The video starts with a remote view of Pluto and its enceinte lunation , Charon , and finishes with a “ landing place ” on the shoreline of Sputnik Planitia , a bright , frappe - covered basin . It give us a chance to see Pluto in all its colorized resplendency , showcasing the red , brownish , and copper hue characteristic of the dwarf satellite .
The deep red colouring in Pluto ’s southwestern cerebral hemisphere is likely due to hydrocarbons called tholins , which form in Pluto ’s atmosphere . After exposure to verbatim sunlight , its reddish ice turns to vaporisation and drifts toward the north pole , where it regains its frosty form on the airfoil . This pattern of thaw and freeze is plausibly why we ’re seeing decided latitudinal semblance bands .

New Horizons took these photos over the line of six weeks take up to and culminating in its historical flyby of Pluto on July 14 , 2015 . Its potent telescopic television camera were able to pick out features as small as a football field .
The original dim - and - white video can be viewedhere .
