It ’s awful that there has n’t been a Green Lantern movie until now . The concept ( a space cop with a wizard wishing halo given to him by extraterrestrial being ) is so perfect and provides just the correct mix of escapism and grit . So I ’m excited that a GL film at long last seems to be trundling frontwards , and I proceed to retrieve that a movie based on the originative origin story Green Lantern : Emerald Dawn would work great , minus the hero ’s potomania . But the latest script review , from Latino Review , does make me a tad skittish because of the two words that can wrack any superhero film : “ villain clutter . ” As with premature draught of the playscript that have been brush up online , the draft that Latino Review got their helping hand on espouse the storyline of Emerald Dawn pretty closely . Hal Jordan is a test pilot burner who ’s fearless and honest , but battling fiend having to do with the death of his forefather . And then one 24-hour interval , a buy the farm alien blank space fuzz cite Abin Sur crashlands in the desert and order his superintendent - gang to find someone fearless to take his place . The ring passes by Guy Gardner — and Clark Kent ! — and go to Hal Jordan . Hal discover the noncitizen , takes his ringing and buries the alien ’s body in the desert . Then Hal makes his famous oath as Green Lantern by the remainder of the moving-picture show ’s first act . Then we have a long division of Hal find out about his mogul and doing his first respectable title on Earth , while romancing his boss ’ daughter , Carol Ferris . Finally , he travel to Oa , the home major planet of the Guardians , who created his make - anything halo in the first space . There , despite being the fresh of the Green Lantern Corps . , he leave the conflict against the evil Legion , who has already killed several Lanterns ( including Abin Sur ) and defeats him . Along the way , Hal has to suppress his demons — although hopefully this does n’t involve sober up . But patently writers Greg Berlanti , Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green felt that the streamlined spark of the Emerald Dawn series was n’t fancy enough , so they ’ve added a second baddie to the mix . After Hal buries Abin Sur in the desert , the government digs him up and order scientist Hector Hammond to do an autopsy . Hammond pulls out a piece of shrapnel , which is a piece of the evil Legion himself , and it taint him , turning him into a top-notch - brained unstoppable killer . The reason Hal go to the Guardian ’s planet Oa in the first place is to seek aid fighting Hammond , whom he ca n’t shoot down alone . And in the pic ’s climax , the Lanterns crusade Legion on Oa and at the same time some of them take on Hammond back on Earth . I ’m dubious that the picture show really needs a 2nd villain , let alone a culmination involving fighting two villains — on two different planets — at once . It sounds a scrap Spider - Man 3 to me . The other tack on gain is that apparently the halcyon age Green Lantern , Alan Scott , has a major role in the movie . Since Scott also has a witching halo , but his ring really is magic and did n’t come from aliens , include him might just ferment the whole enterprise into a mega - confusing fix . Despite a few problems , stemming from the potomania thing and the fact that its writers drop out after the first issue , Emerald Dawn is a passably effective templet for a GL origin story . I would n’t mud it up by tacking on too many other element from other Green Lantern comics , just to please a handful of fanboys . In particular , if you need a 2nd scoundrel besides Legion , allow Hal beat him / her in act two . Do n’t keep both villains around for the movie ’s climax , or it ’ll just degrade the movement to vote out Legion . Oh , and separately , Latino Review cast insensate water on the surmise that David Boreanaz will act as Hal Jordan in the movie . Which is absolutely shocking , because I had actually recall David Boreanaz was going to play all of the role in the moving-picture show include Carol Ferris and all the little gamy guys .
