Chances are you ’ve never watched Syfy ’s mad science show Helix . It broadcast on Friday Nox , it does n’t get a lot of bombination , and if you ’ve ever caught a promo , it must face pretty perplexing . And it is ! But it ’s also completely mad , and that ’s what makes it one of the most fascinating , entertaining show on right now .
To be average , if you have discover Helix , you ’ve likely given up on it , because you were entirely thwarted at its unfitness to ever lick any of its enigma . In fact , if you made it through the first season , you were very probably disappointed at the show ’s complete refusal to suffice a single one of the major plot threads . I realize that , and if you ’re on the fence about Helix , I ideate this sounds fairly damning . But I ’m here to tell you the show is worth watching anyway .
Admittedly , it ’s not because of the plot . Trying to explicate Helix is an exercise in futility ; I was watching the third sequence of season two the other 24-hour interval , and my married woman was in the room and happened to give me a nonplused look about what was happening on screen . Here is my attempt to explain a single scene :

“ Okay , so this guy is gaga . The woman that ’s clearly his historic period is his daughter , and he ’s link her up because she joined an malefic companionship he once worked for to make a killer computer virus . The other two people in the way are his wife and adopt son , but they do n’t really exist except in the guy ’s head because they ’re dead . Also it ’s 30 class in the future . Also they ’re immortal . ”
This is the simple summary I could give her , and it is clearly ridiculous . But because the show is full of so much WTFuckery that this is true of pretty much any consequence in the series . I can tell you the overall game includes multiple shadowy mathematical group trying to make incredible deadly and vulgar viruses for strange reasons , and that there ’s an evil corporation run by 500 immortal , and the friend has gone on a execution spree and joined a mysterious cult , but does that really do you any salutary ? I assure you it does not .
Because Helix has no result . At all . I do n’t think it has any idea what its doing , where its going , what its end game is , or why it does much of anything on an episode - to - instalment basis . rather of giving answers , Helix introduce about five new mysteries in ever instalment — mystery story that range from “ Why is this main persona secretly hiding among these cultists ? ” to “ Why are there C of frozen scamp covering the landscape painting ? ” — and Helix can be relied on to serve … maybe one of them . That ’s it . In fact , of all the huge game threads the show brought up in season one , I think all of them were not answer in the slight . So dissonant , in fact , that three episodes in to season 2 and we have only the dim clue as to what happened to one of the reference during the year - long interval between the conclusion and the season 2 premiere , and that ’s that she ’s been pregnant for 15 month . ”

Admittedly , if you require a coherent , planned out story , Helix is not for you . And if you want a show with a rich mythology that it slowly reveals over time , well , you might hate Helix more than any show in the existence . I used to be worried about the solvent too , and then they cut off Jeri Ryan ’s head and stuck it in a jar . Then the uncollectible guys drugged a crew of kids with some variety of tea , and they lure a character off and beat him half - to - death with rock ‘n’ roll . Then … well , you get the picture .
What Helix lack in coherence it has pull ahead in admit at least three jaw - dropping , batshit mad moments every episode , and if you could make peace with the fact that none of the show is ever give way to make sense , Helix is a sublime experience . It ’s a lot like Lost , and I ’m not just saying that because Helix ’s second time of year is set on a mysterious island dwell by a bizarre radical with mysterious motif ( Helix season 2 is also basically a remake of season one , which is jolly crazy unto itself , but that ’s neither here nor there ) . apparently , many multitude were very upset when the turn a loss finale when it failed to deliver the answer to all they ’d been hoping for . But does the ending really negate all the amusement value Lost offer on a weekly basis before then ? Does the final episode erase all the delight out of the folly of see to it the hummer monster for the first meter ? Or the four - toed statue ? Or make we were watching a flash - forward ?
It did n’t for me , and it does n’t for Helix . In fact , I ’m pretty confident that if Helix has answer to its screwball virus / Revelation of Saint John the Divine / immortal / vicious corporation meaninglessness — or it thinks it has answer — they ’re go to be abominable , and frankly , I ’d rather just not get them . This show is too damn idiotic to ever be right explained , but that is just what make it so massively entertaining .

In fact , Helix is the most strictly entertaining show on Syfy , and one of the greatest , most enjoyable shows currently airing . Maybe it ’s not one of the “ secure ” shows currently air , but it ’s definitely one of the most originative and imaginative , and that should calculate for something , dammit . It ’s certainly not for everyone , but those who can accept the show will never make good sense and move past it will discover a uniquely satisfy TV experience . Unless you know of another show where the chief part can wander into a field of 100 of skull and it ’s only like the third weirdest thing that ’s happened to them that day .
