Upper Deck is put together a set of fire beetle trading cards , and artist Robert Jimenez is one of the artists involved . He ’s put together some stunning cards of Joss Whedon ’s series in pulp form .
Jimenez observe that when Upper Deck was bringing on artists to draw up some Firefly calling card , it was an opportunity to mesh together two interestingness : Firefly and pulp art . The company like the approximation as well , and ask for some propaganda - style poster to go along with the cards :
I lie with Pulp art , in particular the work of Rafael Desoto , George Rozen and Walter Baumhofer . A mountain of my house painting oeuvre is definitely influenced by the writing style . I also have been designing faux pulp covers for a few years now using my paintings as the cover fine art . I ’m a large lover of Firefly and the Serenity photographic film , so when I hear Upper Deck was lease artists for an upcoming trading card dress I wrote them and sent off some sampling of my pulp magazine influenced work .

For me Firefly has always felt like it ’s drawn heavy from the planetal romance style of skill fiction – the flesh account of the thirties – and after interpret up on authors such as C.L. Moore and Leigh Brackett , I can altogether see either author or their contemporaries toy in the ‘ Verse with Serenity and her crew . These covers fit out utterly , and I care that they survive for real .
Over on his website , Jimenez has indicated that he ’ll be offering the original nontextual matter for sale in the penny-pinching future tense .
Here ’s a closer flavor at a match of the card that he ’s drawn up :
