A little black dress and diamond studs are the two elements that make upLucy Liu’s signature look, and now she’s found the perfect finishing touch for her go-to outfit — a pair ofnude and silver pumpsshe designed in partnership withBruno Magli(shown above). TheElementarystar, 47, is the new brand ambassador for the Italian footwear company, and the$475 two-toned shoesshe designed are part of the brand’s first women’s assortment available in the U.S. in three years. She also stars in the campaign for the brand alongside male model Marian Kurpanov, seen below.

“I like a shoe that becomes classic and is not something that is so of that season all the time,” she tells PeopleStyle of her inspiration when we caught up with her during a break from shooting the Bruno Magli campaign on the Upper East Side in New York City. “I wanted to bring a little bit of that classic style that they have but I also wanted to make it special in the sense of the dual-tone shoe.”
When creating the style, she paid special attention to the color and heel height. “I like a nude shoe because it lengthens your leg,” she says. “I’m notthatsuper tall [she’s 5’3”] but I like the way that looks and it doesn’t cut you off in the front. Also, we made the heel so it wasn’t super high so that it could be easy to wear. You know in New York you walk to work and then your walking in the office all day. So I wanted to make it actually something that people would actually use not just put in their bookcase like it’s holding up some books.”
And she didn’t just create this silhouette for the sake of adding shoe designer to her résumé. Bruno Magli is donating a portion of the proceeds of the shoe sales to benefitUNICEF, the non-profit global children’s rights organization that Liu has been working with closely since 2004. “I love the aspect of doing something that’s creative and it also contributes to a great cause,” she says. “I used to do a lot of missions, and I’ve seen how very little these kids have. I think it’s a nice idea not just have Bruno Magli just coming back but actually have something that it’s connected to. That makes it a little more important, don’t you think? Especially nowadays.”
